Data Usage Policy
All content presented on this website is owned by the constituent organizations and cooperating organizations of the Project for Unveiling Grey-faced Buzzard Migration. Please carefully review the following regarding data usage.
- The rights to all data obtained through this project (hereinafter “Data”) shall belong to each constituent organization. organizations are the Asian Raptor Research and Conservation Network, the Amami Ornithologists’ Club (NPO), the Nature Conservation Society of Japan, the Wild Bird Society of Japan, and the Japanese Society for Preservation of Birds. Organizations other than the constituent organizations that have participated in or supported the survey and have been approved by the constituent organizations shall be designated as cooperating organizations.
- Cooperating organizations include government agencies and schools.
- Cooperating organizations may share data on individuals captured in the year and region(s) in which their organization was involved with this project. For all other data sharing, decisions shall be made through consultation among the constituent organizations.
II. Research Publications and Other Outputs
When members of constituent organizations conduct research presentations, publications, or other works using the Data, information shall be shared among organizations in advance, and research presentations shall be conducted with joint authorship by all relevant parties as, a general rule. However, this requirement does not apply when joint authorship is deemed unnecessary.
When members of constituent organizations publish already-published content in their organization’s newsletters or other publications, approval among constituent organizations is not required.
When conducting research presentations, publications, or other works using the Data, the project name must be clearly stated in the acknowledgments or citations.

III. Data Provision to Third Parties
Third parties are defined as organizations and individuals other than the constituent and cooperating organizations.
Constituent and cooperating organizations shall not provide unpublished Data to third parties without permission.
When a third party requests access to or use of unpublished Data, they must submit the purpose of access or use in the prescribed format (see section “Application for Data Usage” below). The constituent organizations shall consult and determine whether to approve the request. Data access and use for the purpose of understanding Grey-faced Buzzard ecology or conservation shall be approved to the extent possible. However, uses that do not result in tangible outputs shall not be approved, as a general rule.
Detailed location information for breeding sites shall not be provided, as a general rule. However, exceptions may be made when approved through consultation among constituent organizations.
When providing Data to organizations other than constituent organizations, only the necessary portions shall be extracted and provided.
Detailed real-time location information shall not be provided as a general rule, as the burden on data providers would be substantial.
Should other cases requiring consultation arise regarding data provision, the organizations shall promptly consult with one another.
Third parties receiving Data shall not engage in secondary use or distribution of the Data.

IV. Amendment of Policies
Should any problems arise with this data usage policy, amendments shall be made through consultation among the constituent organizations.
